Water4Wildlife Foundation Celebrates World Wetlands Day With An Eco-Friendly Football Tournament

On the occasion of World Wetlands Day 2022, Water4Wilife Foundation in partnership with Kenya Wildlife Service and Nakuru County Government organized an exciting football tournament with an eco-friendly theme in Solai, Nakuru. The tournament was held to raise awareness about the importance of wetlands and the role they play in maintaining the delicate balance of nature.

The venue is a field surrounded by wetlands, providing an idyllic setting for the event. Teams of various children from local schools and communities as well as game rangers from KWS participated in the tournament, showcasing their skills on the field while also sharing knowledge about the significance of wetlands. The tournament had a unique twist, with teams wearing branded Water4Wilife jerseys. The event was a huge success, with enthusiastic participants and a large turnout of spectators.

Water4Wildlife Foundation plans to make the World Wetlands Day football tournament an annual event, with the aim of reaching a wider audience and making a positive impact on the environment. With the success of this year’s tournament, the organization hopes to inspire others to take similar initiatives and contribute to the conservation of wetlands and the environment.

“Wetlands play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of our ecosystem. They are home to a diverse range of plant and animal species and provide a range of essential services to both wildlife and humans, including water purification, flood control, and carbon sequestration,” said Cherop De Harder, Director and Founder of Water4Wildlife Foundation.

“It is our responsibility to protect and conserve wetlands for future generations. At our W4W, we are dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of wetlands and promoting their conservation. We are working with local communities, governments, and other organizations to ensure these vital habitats are protected for the benefit of both wildlife and humans,” she added.

The event demonstrated that it is possible to have fun and promote environmental conservation at the same time.
