Transforming Lives Through Clean Water at Ndakurukurieti Water Point, Lemek Conservancy

At Water4Wildlife Maasai Mara, access to clean water is at the heart of our mission. Our work focuses on providing sustainable water solutions that serve both the local community and the wildlife that share this vital resource.

In many parts of the Maasai Mara ecosystem, women bear the primary responsibility of collecting water for their families. Often, this water comes from shared streams also used by livestock and wildlife, posing health risks and placing a heavy physical burden on women and girls, with children being the victims of waterborne diseases.

In February 2026, through our water filtration intervention at Ndakurukurieti, we transformed a shared stream into a source of clean, safe water for the community. The impact goes beyond improved health, it restores dignity, saves time and strengthens coexistence between humans and wildlife.

The before-and-after transformation of the Ndakurukurieti water point reflects what is possible when communities and conservation efforts work hand in hand. Clean water is not just a basic need, it is a foundation for healthier families, empowered women and thriving ecosystems.
