About Us.

Who We Are

We are a foundation on a mission to provide water to the wildlife and raise awareness on wildlife conservation.

We are committed to ensuring wildlife access safe and clean drinking water.

“If you are not filled with overflowing love, compassion and goodwill for all creatures living wild in nature, you will never know true happiness.” Paul Oxton.

Water is the central aspect of wildlife conservation. Without water, a healthy habitat cannot exist. Wildlife in the arid region of Maasai Mara is impacted heavily by water shortages. Water4wildlife focuses on the provision of water to wildlife & community through the excavation of water pans & boreholes, which ensures peaceful coexistence in the ecosystem.

Our Core Values

The legal entity, structure and organization

Water4Wildlife Foundation was founded over 15 years ago by the founder as a hobby and a simple initiative to empower the community and support water provision to wild animals.

In 2019 the organization was officially registered for the full operation of its activities.   It has a sister organization based in Kenya, established in Maasai Mara – Lemek Conservancy within the Maasai Mara ecosystem, Narok County (Kenya). The foundation is not for profit, it tries to keep costs low, and funds go directly to the foundation’s purpose.

Since its inception, the Water4Wildlife foundation has focused on various activities to protect wildlife affairs and the community from providing an ample environment where the latter can thrive with minimal conflicts resulting from the competition of the available scarce resources.

We have successfully rehabilitated a borehole through a partnership from Davis & Shirtliff that currently serves the community. We are also currently in partnership with the UEFA Foundation for Children, which supports local primary schools in constructing a mini football pitch and providing playing kits in a project dubbed ‘Kick the Ball Save our Wildlife.

Water4Wildlife Foundation partners with game rangers and teachers in the primary schools within the conservancy; we are targeting school-going children through sports to educate them on the values of wildlife conservation (this includes their ecosystem) as a natural resource. We are also extending our focus on youths through sports activities to reduce drug and substance abuse incidences. We also engage the community and other key stakeholders in management and conservation efforts.

The board:

The foundation consists of three board members:

  1. Cherop de Harder (Chairperson and Initiator)

  2. Joyce Senet (Treasurer)

  3. Isabelle de Harder (Secretary)

Policy Plan for the years 2022-2025:

The board tries to carry out at least 1-5 projects per year, in which the foundation’s goal will always be put first. In addition, it is just as important to guarantee the integrity of the foundation and its objectives. To this end, it is important that basic matters relating to administration, banking, financial accountability, and tax matters are correctly organized.

The furnishing is conditional, but the goal is of course, to raise funds and start projects. To this end, an overview will be made of companies and institutions to be approached that could support projects. A list of project priorities will be established, and fundraising will begin. The foundation will mainly be publicized through social media. The funds will primarily provide for the implementation of the projects. Where possible, money will be reserved to cover the fixed costs of the foundation.

The management and expenditure of the finances are as follows:

  1. Recruitment is done by all three board members

  2. The fixed costs are initially paid with private money.

  3. The bank is administered primarily by the treasurer, but board members are not alone and independently authorized. Assignments are always given by two directors.

  4. An accountant is appointed to ensure the correct accounting of financial flows.

  5. Incoming funds or donations are primarily used to carry out projects. Secondary and when specifically indicated, a buffer is created to be able to bear the fixed costs over the long term.

  6. When the foundation is dissolved, the remaining money will be spent on the local CBO in Kenya (sister organization of Water4Wildlife) or an ANBI with a similar purpose to being determined.

Our key registration details are as follows:

  • KVK: 76717852

  • Tax Number: 8607 72 275

Water4Wildlife Maasai Mara Foundation has been granted ANBI status by the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration.

The Dutch abbreviation ANBI means Algemeen Nut Beogende Instelling, or Public Benefit Organization.

Institutions can only be qualified as public benefit organizations if at least 90% of their efforts are focused on the common good.
